Official Authentication Partner
Verified in collaboration with Authentiquea
Every shirt on Memorabilia Match Worn is authenticated in partnership with Authentiquea, specialist authenticators with deep expertise in professional football shirts, competition badging, and provenance verification. Their independent evaluation adds an additional layer of confidence to every item we list — beyond our own internal standards.
We also work alongside the official foundations of elite clubs — including Fundació FC Barcelona and Fundación Real Madrid, and many more official club foundations worldwide. These relationships give us direct, traceable access to historically significant shirts and strengthen the integrity of every provenance claim on our platform.
Visit Authentiquea →Our authentication philosophy
At Memorabilia Match Worn, authentication is not a marketing label — it is a documented process. Every item we list is evaluated against available evidence, and we clearly state what is verified, what is documented, and what requires further context. Collectors deserve transparency, not vague assurances.
Certificate of Authenticity (COA)
Where applicable, items include a Certificate of Authenticity with a unique reference number tied to the specific shirt. Each COA documents the item's reference code, shirt type (match-worn, match-issued, signed, or prepared), and the scope of what the certificate covers. We encourage collectors to review the certificate details on each product page before purchase.
A COA supports an item when issued with specific reference details — it does not replace provenance documentation or independent evaluation. We explain exactly what each certificate attests to.
Provenance documentation
Provenance is the documented history of an item. For football shirts, this may include:
- Match context — date, competition, opponent, and stadium where available
- Player and club association with reference codes
- Source chain and acquisition history where documented
- Authentication notes from independent review where applicable
- High-resolution photography showing identifying features, wear patterns, and labels
Provenance varies by item. We never imply documentation exists where it does not — each product page lists exactly what is available for that specific shirt.
Reference codes
Every shirt in our catalogue carries a unique reference code (e.g. MMW-ARG-MES-2022-FIN-001). This code links the listing, certificate, and order records, giving collectors a permanent identifier for their item. Reference codes appear on product pages, in order confirmations, and on certificates where issued.
Shirt types explained
We categorise items clearly so collectors know exactly what they are acquiring:
- Match-worn — Worn by the player during the documented match or period
- Match-issued — Prepared and issued for match use; may not have been worn on pitch
- Signed — Includes a documented player signature with context where available
- Prepared — Squad or training issue with documented context
Condition reporting
Match-worn shirts often show pitch-related wear — sweat marks, grass stains, and fabric stress. We provide detailed condition notes and multiple high-resolution photographs so collectors can assess an item before purchase. Condition is part of authenticity for match-worn memorabilia.
What we ask of collectors
We encourage due diligence. Review the product page documentation, examine the photography, and contact us with questions before purchasing high-value items. Our collector guides offer further reading on evaluating authenticity and provenance.

Authentication FAQ
How do you authenticate match-worn football shirts?
Every shirt is evaluated against available evidence — match context, player association, wear patterns, labels, and source history — then authenticated in partnership with Authentiquea. Each listing states exactly what is verified and documented.
What is a Certificate of Authenticity (COA)?
Where applicable, items include a COA with a unique reference number tied to that specific shirt, documenting shirt type, reference code, and the scope of what the certificate covers.
What is the difference between match-worn and match-issued?
Match-worn means the shirt was worn by the player during the documented match or period. Match-issued means it was prepared and issued for match use and may not have been worn on the pitch. We label each item clearly.
